I felt like razor blades were touching my skin….
At the height of my burnout, my sensitivity went through the roof.
I was struggling with too much noise,
Too much overstimulation even just, walking through the grocery store.
I had trouble focusing on conversations and found social interaction on any level incredibly difficult.
I just wanted to be alone, to withdraw entirely, and the hardest part was
Even when loved ones reached out to hug me, it sometimes felt like razor blades on my skin.
Everything felt like too much….
What I didn’t know at the time, was that my nervous system was actually both in the fight/flight and the freeze response at the same time….
It felt difficult to do anything…. Even day-to-day things that were a breeze and I handled easily beforehand, I struggled to complete them.
Learning how to regulate and heal my nervous system was critical to healing my burnout and rebuilding my capacity for life again.
This knowledge is not only so important to be aware of for ourselves, but also for our children.
More and more evidence and research are indicating that nervous system dysregulation (living in fight/flight or freeze responses) is a huge cause of inflammation in the body. Not to mention that our little ones don’t know how to regulate their nervous system and they use and model our nervous system in learning how to be in the world.
Therefore if we don’t know how to regulate and calm ourselves, it’s going to be even harder for our children.
And that’s why I’m so passionate about teaching how to Heal and Regulate your Nervous System in my upcoming Masterclass on Tuesday the 24th of January at 11 am AEDT (Sydney Time)
