What Paddleboarding taught me about Life…. 😂


Let’s go paddleboarding he said. It will be fun, he said!🤣🤦‍♀️😅
It was New Years day….
The wind was starting to pick up and Tim and I had decided we’d go out on the lake for a paddleboard and kayak.
Our destination – the Marina, directly across the lake.


Now for my Wagga peeps, this lake is 174km circumference…. It’s a little bigger than Lake Albert’s 5.5km circumference….. 🤯
And it connects to the ocean, so there’s been sightings of sharks in the Lake too…. 😅


Now I’d like to think I’m a reasonable paddleboarder, my balance is good, I have good upper body strength, and to be honest, I love it.
Halfway across, the wind picked up, even more, next minute I’m finding I’m actually riding half metre waves, which is kinda fun and kinda scary, the wind is blowing like crazy, and pushing me along for now….. I’m managing to maintain my balance, even though the waves are getting bigger and have white caps on them now.


And then I realised, that the likely hood of having a tremendous headwind on the way back was very highly likely…. 😳 Considering I was moving forwards, without much effort.
I was right…
We reached the Marina…..
Phew… A bit of a breather, then back home we head, I look across at the boat that I’m next to as we start to head out of the Marina, I paddled hard for a good minute….. I’d barely moved 6 inches….. 😂😩 😂 and if I stopped for even 10 seconds, I went backward a good metre or two…. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Arrrgghhh, at this rate, it would take me 6 hours or longer to get back home….🙃


So, this is what Paddleboarding taught me about life:


1. Balance is so important, this is not about perfect life balance, it’s about being able to stay balanced in ourself in order to deal with the “waves of life”. 🏄‍♀️
2. The wind may blow in your favour, take the time to enjoy this and leave some energy in the tank for the “headwind” and challenges that life sometimes brings us.💨
3. Surround yourself with people that support you to keep going when things get hard. I was so thankful for Tim, continuing to encourage me, even when I had no idea when or how I was going to get back home, across the lake with the extreme headwind and waves.🙏🏻💗
4. Use the most efficient strategy to get you to where you want to go. Thankfully Tim was happy to give up his Kayak and take on the Paddleboard for me when he could see that I was literally getting nowhere with the headwind on the Paddleboard! 😅🙏🏻💗
It’s important to switch to a different strategy when you realise, that the current one you are using is NOT taking you in the direction you want to go, with ease, joy, and flow!
5. And laugh and enjoy yourself. Especially when things are tough, we sometimes take ourself and life way too seriously, laughing at the ludicrously of things can bring a joy and lightness to an otherwise very difficult task.😂


Eventually, we did get back home, with a couple of nudges from Tim assisting me to keep moving forward, and then eventually me face planting on the board when we switched back! 😂😂😂
Life is always bringing us gifts, showing us where we can learn and lean into both with our mindset, skills, and strategies. 💝
This experience taught me the importance of mindset, the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people, the importance of determination and resilience and an I can do it, no matter what it takes attitude, and the importance of the right strategy to get you to where you want to go.
